You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. ~Ephesians 4:22-24
As we head into a new year, take some time to examine your life. What are some areas where you are letting your ‘old self’ have control? What are some of the habits and temptations of your old self?
How would these areas of your life look if you put on a ‘new self’ as these verses say? Where can you specifically ask God to transform your life to reflect His righteousness and holiness?
Consider these three principles from Ephesians 4:
- Aim Higher – “you must no longer live as the Gentiles do” v. 17
- Start Right – “They are darkened in their understanding… due to the hardening of their hearts.” v. 18
- Stay Focused “be made new in the attitude of your minds” v. 23
In summary, don’t settle anymore for the sins of your old self. Don’t let your hearts become hard, but instead focus your heart on the Lord and He will renew your attitudes.
