Guided Outdoor Activities for Groups
Our guided outdoor activities for groups are designed to complement your retreat by providing a variety of fun and energetic activities! They’re also great for field trips!
Be sure to plan ahead! Reservations for Guided Outdoor Activities must be made at least 2 months in advance (contact us).
Popcorn Bonfires
If you’re looking for a unique outdoor experience combining a special time around the campfire with delicious, fresh, kettle-cooked popcorn, join us at the Three Crosses Campfire Area for this treat.
- 1 hour sessions for up to 100 people.
- Each kettle serves approximately 30 people.
Canoeing & Kayaking
A great choice for groups of 12-15, our guided trips take you to the nearby stunning Diascund Reservoir for a two-hour canoeing and kayaking adventure.
Hayrides
A traditional favorite! Our tractor-drawn hay wagon ride meanders over open fields and wooded lanes to provide a fun and relaxing activity.
Rides are 20 minutes.
Our hay wagon can accommodate up to 25 people.Team-Building Games
This unique set of competitive and cooperative challenges will help groups discover their strengths and weaknesses in areas like communication, creativity, leadership, and listening. Try the classic Team Trolleys or Moonball to Mars when you come!
Archery
A fun and popular choice for groups large and small, archery at WCRC is the perfect way to embrace your inner Merida, Katniss, or Robin Hood. Our seasoned instructors will guide you through every step including safety, form, and fine-tuning skills. Seasonal, ages 7+
Slingshot
How’s your aiming game? Dead shot or not, this activity is great target practice. Feel the rush when your marble hits metal – and don’t shoot the squirrels! Seasonal, Ages 5+
Challenge Course Activities
Our ropes activities provide a fun, challenging way for your group to interact. As participants complete the course/activity the rest of the group is encouraged to cheer them on as a team. Click here for more information about our ropes course.

Whether you choose our Oakwood Lodge Hotel, one of our Cottages, or our Cabin Village, each option at WCRC is designed with comfort in mind for your family. All of our rooms have heating and A/C, and our cabins have carpet and full-size mattresses.
Local Attractions
Because of our close proximity to nearby attractions, we can suggest seasonal recreational activities for your family’s interests. In the springtime, enjoy our Family Fun Day, spend the day at Busch Gardens, or explore Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown. During the Christmas season, enjoy our Christmas Around the Campfire event, visit Yorktown Lighted Boat Parade, or stop by Colonial Williamsburg’s Grand Illumination.

Recreation
Your kids will love the onsite activities including disc golf, spacious outdoor playgrounds, tennis courts, soccer fields, gaga ball pits, and an outdoor pool (open Memorial Day through Labor Day). If you are up for an adventure, you can hike or bike to the Learning Tree, our wetlands wildlife viewing area. Then end your day with a campfire at one of our many fire rings.

The Beautiful Grounds of WCRC
WCRC has 300 peaceful wooded acres on the Tidewater Peninsula in Southeastern Virginia and offers the best family retreats in the area.
It’s a peaceful oasis with canopied forests for hiking and open fields for games and gatherings. Beavers, deer, wild turkeys, and blue heron call WCRC home, allowing guests to experience God’s creation in all its splendor.
