Winter Youth Retreat 2012

Thirty-three teenagers descended upon our peaceful grounds last weekend for our yearly Winter Youth Retreat! Some of our summer staff returned to volunteer their time as counselors making it a fun, activity packed few days for the campers.

Despite a bit of rain we were able to play some outdoor games, have a photo scavenger hunt, and enjoy a popcorn bonfire. Board games, carpet pool and a talent show provided indoor entertainment.

Andrew and Julie Halbert came with their two young children to serve as camp speakers. The Halberts are preparing to go on the mission field in Costa Rica with United World Missions in just a couple months. The retreat theme was “We are on a Mission.” Andrew spoke to the campers about the book of Jonah, using the prophet as a negative example of missions. He challenged the campers to share their faith in their daily lives, and to view their sphere of influence as their mission field. The Great Commission is not only to those called to foreign nations, rather we are all called to share the Gospel wherever we are.

Many of the campers made commitments to be in God’s word more and to look for opportunities to serve the Lord and share Him with others in their everyday lives.
