Persevere

Have you ever started something new, like a sport, an instrument or a new school year, and been filled with hopeful anticipation of the good things to come? You’re determined to apply yourself, nothing will stop you and you dream of wonderful accomplishments to come.

It may not take long though for difficulties to begin creeping in and destroying your hope. Something doesn’t go quite right, suddenly it isn’t as exciting anymore and you realize that you need to work harder than you’d expected. Giving in to complaints and discontentedness or giving up entirely often sounds like an appealing option.

We are called to more than that. “You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.” Hebrews 10:36

What is the will of God referenced above?

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24

We can’t give up when things get hard. We work for the Lord, who desires our best effort, whether the going is good or bad.

So when the excitement of something new begins to wear off or when difficult circumstances come into your life, remember that giving up is not an option. You can press on to the end, you can follow through to the finish line and He will keep you from falling.

Read Hebrews 12:1-3.

Look through some of these verses talking about perseverance. Choose one or two to write out and put in a place where you will see it and be encouraged. As you see it throughout your week, try to memorize it.
