About WCRC Quilting Retreats

Celebrating 16 Years of Quilting Retreats through Quilting, Fellowship, and Worship!

Quilting:

Quilting:

Quilting: Bring your current quilting project or start a new one during your time here. If you have never quilted before, Lorraine Mooney, our Quilting Retreat Coordinator, will be on hand to help you get started in the quilting world. She will answer questions and assist with techniques, skills, and designs. There is so much sharing of ideas and patterns that it’s a good idea to bring extra fabric!

Fellowship:

Fellowship:

The weekend is designed to allow quilters to connect with others who share this same passion and faith. The retreat will have a relaxed schedule allowing participants to get to know each other and share their quilting projects with one another.

Worship:

Worship:

We will be exploring how quilting can be a way of worshiping God. There is an old saying, “When life gives you scraps, make a quilt.” The retreat will be peppered throughout with devotionals to help the participants to connect quilting with their relationship with God. We will be exploring how quilting fits into the fabric of our lives and what parallels we can draw from the quilting process.

Lodging:

Quilters will stay in our Oakwood Lodge, Holly Cottage, or Cabin Village. Lodging will be chosen by WCRC based on availability. Quilters will be able to choose who they would like to room with. Tables and chairs will be provided in a large meeting room for quilters to use as they work. WCRC will also provide irons, ironing boards, and cutting board stations. Plan to bring your own sewing machine if you use one when quilting.

Come For the Week or Just the Weekend:

Mid-week quilters can get some extra sewing time by coming on Wednesday or Thursday. Meals and lodging are provided from lunch on Wednesday through lunch on Friday. Weekend quilters come in on Friday. Lodging and meals begin with dinner on Friday and go through breakfast on Sunday. The retreat officially ends on Sunday at 11am. Quilters may continue sewing in the meeting rooms until 4pm; however, lunch will not be served on Sunday.

Activities & Extras:

There will be lots of activities throughout the week.

  • A small project or two will be taught by Lorraine
  • Day trips and excursions will be available to participate in
  • Daily devotions encouraging fellowship
  • Show-n-shares to encourage one another in their projects

Meet Lorraine

Img 01981Williamsburg Christian Retreat Center has had Lorraine Mooney on staff since 2007. In January 2008 Lorraine facilitated our first quilting retreat. That retreat ended up being so successful that we began a tradition of holding a Spring and Fall Quilting Retreat every year. Lorraine is a “retired” art teacher, award winning quilter, quilt teacher, designer, and lecturer. At the quilting retreat you will find Lorraine rotating around to the different sewing rooms giving help and direction as needed. Over her many years of quilting, Lorraine has found that quilting helps her relate and stay close to the Lord. She willingly shares her faith story through retreat devotions. Quilting has become her ministry and she devotes several days a week to charity quilts.

About Us

The vision of WCRC began in the early 1980s when members of the area Mennonite churches became concerned with the spiritual needs of youth. They found that young people were often making their professions of faith at church camps, so they decided to build a camp facility in the Tidewater area of Virginia that would offer… read more
